India won the opening match of the four match series on Friday by 20 runs and has a one match advantage when they face West Indies in the second tie of the series.

West Indies: LNLLL

West Indies started the first match well with their bowlers doing well with short balls against the Indians. But, once Yuvraj got in to the gear, they could not stop the proceedings. They did pretty well chasing the big total in their innings. They nearly won the match as they approached the final overs but fell short of the wickets. They would definitely like to improve on their performance in this match and register a win.

Team News

India

Dinesh and Ashish came out well in the middle and impressed with their performance. There seem no brainers in picking up the team for the second match. However, Indians need to make sure they keep their socks up throughout the match. Dhoni has expressed that they got little relaxed after the fall of seventh West Indian wicket in the first match and managed a victory of only 20 runs after posting 329.

Possible Eleven

The Indian team would be going in with the same combination that won the first match. There is a possibility that Dinesh could keep the wickets instead of Dhoni, as he looked a bit tired behind the stumps and hurt himself on a couple of occasions. There is a slight possibility that Praveen gets a chance instead of Ishant.

India

  1. Gautam Gambhir
  2. Dinesh (/wk)
  3. Rohit Sharma
  4. MS Dhoni (Capt./wk)
  5. Yuvraj Singh
  6. Yusuf Pathan
  7. Ravindra Jadeja
  8. Harbhajan Singh
  9. Ishant Sharma / Praveen Kumar

West Indies: LLNLL

West Indies have played their last 5 ODIs against England and could not win any. They are counting on their recent form in T20WC and promise to present a tough competition to Indian team in their home.

Team News

India

Indian team needs to forget their bad performance in WCT20 and start the series afresh. Some of the big names like Sachin, Sehwag and Zaheer are missing from the squad. Jadeja, Badrinath, Vijay and Nehra should monetize this opportunity by performing up to the expectations.

It would be interesting to see who opens with Gambhir. Will it be Rohit again or will any one from Dinesh and Vijay will get a chance?

Possible Eleven

Seems like only one from Vijay, Dinesh or Badrinath will be selected for the playing eleven. Dinesh or Vijay could be a good choice for the opening slot and Rohit may come back to the middle order.

Indian Squad for the WI Tour

The Indian squad for the Caribbean tour has been announced. Fatigue and injuries playing a big role in the selection is very evident, while, individual performances in IPL also get due recognition.

In or Out?

Let us have a look who gets in and who gets out comparing it with the WT20 squad:

In Out Stays out
M Vijay Zaheer Khan Sachin Tendulkar
S Badrinath Suresh Raina Virender Sehwag
Abhishek Nayar Irfan Pathan Munaf Patel
Ashish Nehra

If we compare it with the ODI squad that toured New Zealand earlier this year, then Ashish Nehra, Abhishek Nayar, RP Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, S Badrinath and M Vijay get the place into the side.

Selected or Dropped?

Let us try to see why few of the players were selected or dropped?

Selected

  • M Vijay: His performance in Ranji trophy gets him in to the squad. Moreover, he is an opener, so he could release Rohit from the extra responsibility and allow him to strengthen the middle over.

  • Abhishek Nayar: All round performance during Ranji and IPL this season helps him get into the 16-member squad.
  • Ravindra Jadeja: Selectors continue with their faith, after WT20, on this young boy with a promising future.
  • Ashish Nehra: Comes back to the side after 4 years. His performance in IPL and past international experience gets him the ticket.
  • RP Singh: The highest wicket taker in the IPL makes a comeback riding on his success during the league.

  • Sachin Tendulkar: Opted to rest due to the finger injury that he got during the IPL.
  • Virender Sehwag: Continues his medical leave because of the shoulder injury.
  • Suresh Raina: He needs time to get over with the hairline fracture in his thumb.
  • Irfan Pathan: He was not selected for the final two matches in the WT20 and could not find a place for himself in the squad. He was part of the successful team that went to New Zealand.
  • Munaf Patel: He was part of the team to New Zealand, but did not have a good show during the tour. Though he had a good show during the IPL, while bowling for RR, but still could not impress the selectors.
  • Zaheer Khan: Rested because of the shoulder injury he earlier had.
